WHAT IS SOCIAL DANCING?

Social dancing refers to dance styles that are performed in social settings, such as parties, nightclubs, and community events. Unlike competitive or performance dancing, social dancing is typically more relaxed and informal, focusing on enjoyment, social interaction, and improvisation rather than precise choreography or technique.

STYLES OF SOCIAL DANCING

Social dancing includes a variety of styles such as:

  • Salsa: A lively and popular dance originating from Latin America, characterized by energetic movements and intricate footwork.

  • Swing: A group of dances that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s-1940s, known for its joyful and playful movements.

  • Argentine Tango: An elegant and passionate dance that originated in Argentina, featuring dramatic poses and close embrace.

  • Cha-Cha: A fun and rhythmic dance from Cuba, with distinct triple step and hip movements.

  • Waltz: A smooth and graceful dance in 3/4 time, known for its flowing and rotational movements.

  • Bachata: A sensual dance from the Dominican Republic, characterized by close partner connection and simple steps.

  • Rumba: A romantic dance with roots in Afro-Cuban culture, known for its slow and expressive movements.

  • Foxtrot: A smooth and progressive dance characterized by long, flowing movements across the dance floor.

  • Merengue: A fast-paced and easy-to-learn dance from the Dominican Republic, with simple steps and lively music.

We offer instruction in all of these styles of social dancing, accommodating dancers of all levels.
